Ask for seat covers for a Hilux and the make, model and build year is enough. Ask for seat covers for a prime mover and the badge on the bonnet tells almost nobody anything useful.
Heavy trucks are built with seats bought in from specialist seat manufacturers. Two identical trucks off the same production line can carry different seats depending on how the original owner specified the build, and seats get replaced across a working life that often runs longer than a light vehicle’s entire service life. The truck is the same. The seat is not.
So the first question on any truck order is not ‘what are you driving?’ It is ‘what are you sitting on?’
Where to find your seat details
The seat manufacturer’s name is usually moulded into the plastic trim on the side of the base, printed on a label under the cushion, or stamped on the frame behind the backrest. Common names in Australian trucks include ISRI, Stratos, Recaro and TechSafe.
Once you have the name, the next details that change the pattern are:
- Suspension or static base
- Armrests, and whether they sit on the inner side, the outer side or both
- Integrated seat belt, or a belt mounted to the cab
- Headrest type, and whether it is fixed or removable
- Lumbar and seat controls, and where they sit on the seat
- Cushion width on bench and crew seats
A photo of the seat from the side, with the door open, answers most of those at once.

Choosing the right fabric for the job
Canvas is the default on work vehicles. SupaFit canvas is a 14.9 oz coarse weave, medium weight fabric blended with polyester for tear strength. It is waterproof, UV stabilised and resistant to mould, mildew and bacteria. Standard colours are grey, black and brown.
Where a job has a specific requirement there are other options: fire retardant canvas tested to AS1530 Parts 2 and 3, Ripstop PVC in blue and grey, AusCam and PinkCam camouflage canvas, and vinyl or other automotive upholstery materials on request, subject to availability and surcharge.
Denim is a cotton twill outer over a laminated high density foam backing, UV protected, softer to the touch. It suits passenger-facing and presentation vehicles more than a hard worksite.
Cleaning canvas is deliberately simple: fresh water with a cloth or a brush. Avoid soap, detergent, machine washing, and tumble drying to preserve fabric treatments.
Airbags in a truck cab
Side airbags are no longer just a light vehicle feature, and where a seat has one, the cover has to let it fire. An airbag deploys in 10–30 milliseconds – less time than a blink.
Every airbag compatible SupaFit cover is built around SupaSeam, a documented, computer controlled seam aligned to the airbag position on that specific seat. Seams are sewn on German Adler stations with an error lockout that rejects any seam outside tolerance, and every seam carries a barcode so an individual cover can be traced through production. The system has been independently tested against ADR72/00, the vehicle standard applied to original equipment manufacturers, by NATA-accredited laboratories including APVTech and ASE Engineering, with thermal testing from +85°C to -35°C. Finished covers carry industry standard SRS airbag tags sewn into the seam so a site inspector can see compliance without pulling the cover off.
Only covers labelled airbag compatible should be fitted to a seat with a seat mounted airbag.
Ordering for one truck or a whole yard
Every set is made to order and cut to the seat, then hand-sewn at the Welshpool workshop in Western Australia, and delivered Australia-wide. Covers carry a 12-month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.
For a single vehicle, send the seat manufacturer and model plus a side-on photo. For a fleet, send a list with the vehicle, the seat in it, the configuration including armrests and belts, and the quantity per row, and the team will confirm fitment and a production window across the whole order.
Frequently asked questions
- Do you make covers for prime movers? Covers are made to the seat rather than the truck badge. If your truck runs an ISRI, Stratos, Recaro or TechSafe seat, there is very likely an established pattern. Send the seat details and a photo and the team will confirm before you order.
- Do you make Isuzu or Kenworth truck seat covers? While fitment relies on the seat brand rather than the truck badge, many Isuzu and Kenworth trucks come fitted with ISRI or Stratos seats out of the factory. Send a photo of your seat to the Welshpool team to match it to an existing pattern.
- Will a cover work on a suspension seat? Yes. Suspension seats are patterned separately from static ones, including variants for armrest position, because the base and the side profile differ.
- Are truck seat covers airbag safe? Where the seat has a side airbag, SupaSeam covers are independently tested against ADR72/00 by NATA-accredited laboratories and carry external SRS tags. Fit them following the supplied instructions, and only use covers labelled airbag compatible.
- How do I clean red dust out of canvas? Fresh water and a brush or cloth. Avoid detergent, machine washing and tumble drying.
Send us your seat. Photograph the seat from the side with the door open, note any name moulded into the base, and send it through with your vehicle details for a fitment check and a quote.
